In Spring 2021, the COB received a $10,000 gift from Curt and Julie Stangler to fund three Small Business Internships for summer 2021. The intention was to benefit small businesses who suffered due to the pandemic and to offer paid opportunities for students who missed out on internships during the pandemic. Students are paid competitive rates through University student payroll.

We received 8 applications from small businesses, and a committee (1 COB staff, 1 SBDC staff, 1 COB student, and 1 COB Graduate Assistant) selected companies to participate and host interns. Supervisors from these small businesses received best-practices internship training. Twenty-six students applied for the open positions, the 3 positions below were filled, and the 3 interns began work in May/June 2021.

  • Farmamerica MN Agricultural Interpretive Center: Marketing & Events Intern
  • Sota Sisters Boutique: Retail Merchandising Intern
  • Blue Dirt Farm: Project Feasibility Intern

Feedback from employers have been very positive include the following: “Overall, [our intern] has been an excellent addition to our summer team at Farmamerica, and we are happy to have been given the opportunity to help her grow in her professional career during her time as an intern.”
