Celebrating Excellence: Dan Hiebert's Contribution to Financial Planning

We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Daniel Hiebert, PhD, CFP®, Director of Financial Planning and Assistant Professor of Finance/Financial Planning at Minnesota State University, Mankato, has been featured in the May edition of the Journal of Financial Planning. Dr. Hiebert's article highlights his significant contributions to the Financial Planning Association (FPA) Research Task Force/Board for Financial Planner Core Competencies. His work focuses on crafting a set of core competencies for financial planners, with a particular emphasis on critical thinking skills.

Dr. Hiebert's dedication to advancing financial education and literacy is evident through his involvement in various initiatives. He was selected by the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) to participate in a workgroup aimed at shaping the new personal finance course requirement law. Additionally, he serves on the Board of Financial Literacy Advisory Committee (FLAC), promoting financial education literacy to students and the community .

In his article, Dr. Hiebert discusses the importance of core competency skills for new financial planners and the collaborative efforts to conduct research on this subject over the summer.
